Drought Risk explained

The two maps uses an innovative aggregate approach to drought risk mapping. Rather than looking at absolute numbers, it measures the risk relative to each country. In addition, the risk map of the proportional economic loss for the first time shows the impact of a drought - not only on the area affected - but also on the country's GDP. The image shows the risk of a drought reducing that country's GDP.

The mortality risk map shows the risk of deaths resulting from drought.
